Os técnicos e projectistas usam-nos como ferramenta, dado que os referidos mapas lhe fornecem a informação local e atempada que lhes permite fazer especificações de materiais e protecção adequadas a cada tipo de atmosfera. Tendo em conta as alterações climáticas que se tem verificado nas últimas 2 décadas, estes mapas, embora tenham enorme interesse já requerem actualização. A classificação de uma atmosfera constitui a base para uma adequada especificação da protecção anticorrosiva dos materiais.</idAbs>
